GALLERY 3These paintings feature “pushed” color relationships. I use a primary and its secondary complement (color opposite) at almost full saturation, all in the same painting. It is a difficult problem to solve. (I do find that painting gets more difficult as the years go by, you would think the opposite would be true…not so. Trouble is the visual problems I choose to solve get harder with acquired knowledge not easier.) The more recent paintings in this series include a large neutral shape so the viewer has something to compare with those fully saturated colors. Additionally I try to tilt the temperature dominance toward warm or cool to help tie everything together. Do I always succeed? No, but it is such fun to try!
